Dress Code Guidelines

General

At Porters Park we trust that members, their guests and visitors will maintain reasonable standards of dress in keeping with the traditions of the game of golf.  Whilst we would prefer to leave standards of dress to the good sense of those concerned we publish these guidelines to avoid doubt and the possible embarrassment of being denied access to the Club. We hope that all members, their guests and visitors will not put any of our staff in a position where it is necessary for them to bring the dress code to their attention

The standards of acceptable and unacceptable dress are detailed below, are posted in the Club, on the Club’s website and in other forms of communication as deemed necessary.

The Committee has the discretion to relax the dress code for certain events, club socials, private functions and Sunday lunches.

Golf clubs and/or golf bags must not be carried through the Clubhouse other than through the main/palm court entrance corridor into the locker rooms. Golfing footwear must not be changed in the car park.

Acceptable dress

 In the Clubhouse

1. Members, their guests and visitors may wear casual dress including skirts, shorts, trousers and socks that are acceptable on the Course.

2. Shirts should have an attached collar, or roll neck collar and must not (for men) be worn outside trousers, and for ladies unless designed to be so. Collarless shirts marketed by recognized golf clothing manufacturers are permitted.

3.   Proper footwear should be worn; modern casual shoes to include loafers and deck shoes, which may be worn without socks.  Golf shoes, even with soft spikes or moulded sole, are only permitted in the Members Bar and Palm Court and not in the lounge or dining room.

4. The dress code in the dining room is dependent upon the day, time and event being held. Gentlemen should wear jackets and it is optional to wear a tie, cravat or roll-neck pullover after 18.00 hours Monday to Saturday and after 12.00 hours on Sundays.   Elsewhere, and at other times, jackets and ties are not obligatory, unless as a requirement of a social function.

.5. Young people, under 17 years of age, need not comply with the corresponding adult dress code but it is expected that their parents/carers will ensure that they are smartly dressed

On the Course

1. Members and visitors should be neatly attired at all times.

2. Shirts should have an attached collar, or roll neck collar and must not (for men) be worn outside trousers, and for ladies unless designed to be so. Collarless shirts marketed by recognized golf clothing manufacturers are permitted.

3. Acceptable golfing footwear should be worn. Sports training shoes are not permitted.

4. Gentlemen may wear tailored shorts, with knee length socks of any colour or short white ankle socks. Ladies may wear tailored shorts, or skorts with short socks or low cut socks (sockettes).

Dress Code for Social Events

The Committee has the discretion to relax the dress code for social events and will normally publish the dress code in the information for each event. To assist members the following definitions apply.

Formal

Dinner jacket or lounge suit / jacket with collar and tie are obligatory. The notice advertising the event will state which is required.

Smart Casual.

Gentlemen should wear jackets and it is optional to wear a tie.

Casual.

Casual, requires clothing that is acceptable “in the clubhouse” as stated in the Club Dress Code and excludes clothing that is deemed “not acceptable” such as blue denim jeans, cargo trousers/shorts or track/shell suits.

Although all the above categories refer to gentlemen’s clothing it is assumed that ladies will choose clothing appropriate to the occasion.
